My 2nd and 3rd day in Hokkaido

2nd day

Took a train to Otaru which was a small town at the end of the train line. Lunch was at a seafood market where we had a rice bowl covered in crab, sea urchin and scallop. We also had botan prawn (so creamy!!) and huge ass oysters. Yum.. My mum was saying how it used to be a sleepy fishing village with lots of Russian and other European influences. There were plenty of heritage building that were restored and the town was very pretty with a canal. I did find that the town was a bit too modernised now though.

We took a short rickshaw ride but to be honest, there wasn't all that much to see.. At the end of therickshaw ride, my mum alighted using a stool. While I was just stepping off, the stool toppled and I fell into the rickshaw driver's arm. (with my mum screaming in the background). So pai seh... but ok at least its a young cute guy (and not too sweaty). LOL! After that my mum and I walked along this souvenir street that was selling a lot of cute glass products.. I made a musical box thingy which looks so handmade (I'm so bad at craft) but I enjoyed it. Bought lots of glass thingies as gifts for back home.

Running out of money on my 2nd day!!!!

In the evening we took a taxi to a traditional japanese inn (ryokan) to retire for the night. Wow it was super awesome.. A large perimeter of it was dedicated to the traditional japanese garden. We had a traditional array of dining in our tatami room before we bathed in the hot spring overlooking a huge pond and a watermill.  Talk about relaxing.

3rd day

We woke up early to have another bath at another part of the inn (also outdoors). Shiok! The morning breakfast set was even better actually. I'm so spoilt!! We checked out and visted the local aquarium which was just so-so.. Bit old school and small and full of little screaming kids. Took some nice photos though. We walked towards the harbour and ate some awesome awesome seafood. We had sea urchin rice bowl (I've never ever had so much sea urchin at once) and mini scallop miso soup and lots of other seafood that I don't know the english names of.

Returned to Sapporo city for some shopping and bought a couple pairs of awesome shoes. Can't wait to try them. I managed to find time to sneak away to a public phone and tried to call Mr New but it went straight to voicemail.. I spent about 1,000 yen before I realised that it was national day in Singapore and he wouldn't want me to call. Sigh give up! It's horrible how I can't fit into the clothes here.. Sigh.. (I did think I was losing weight from all that walking though) Dinner was kurobuta (black pork) shabu which we just put in hot buckwheat water for a few seconds and ate together with homemade buckwheat noodles. I wonder if I'm getting fatter after all that eating or thinner after all that walking..
